Vietnam tourism is increasingly asserting its position on the world tourism map, attracting a large number of international visitors. In particular, the Australian market is considered one of the key markets, with stable visitor numbers and great growth potential. The cooperation between Vietnam and Australia promises to open up new opportunities to promote tourism and attract visitors from both countries.
The working session between the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism and the Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade) was successful, opening up new prospects for cooperation in the field of tourism. The two sides discussed measures to increase tourist exchanges, promote attractive destinations, and improve service quality.
Promoting Vietnam’s Famous Destinations to International Tourists
Austrade highly appreciates the strong recovery of Vietnam’s tourism after the pandemic and expressed its desire to cooperate in promoting famous destinations such as Da Nang, Hue, Hoi An, Nha Trang, and Phu Quoc to Australian tourists. These cities not only possess wonderful natural beauty but also have unique cultural and historical values, attracting tourists who love to explore and experience.

- Hoi An: A charming ancient town with ancient houses, shimmering lanterns, and a peaceful, tranquil atmosphere.

Austrade appreciates Vietnam’s tourism potential and believes that, with close cooperation, the two sides can attract even more tourists from Australia and other countries to Vietnam.
Australia – An Important Source Market for Vietnam Tourism
Deputy Director General Ha Van Sieu affirmed that Australia is an important source market for Vietnam’s tourism. Australian visitors to Vietnam have maintained a stable level and tend to increase. In the first 10 months of 2023, Vietnam welcomed nearly 320,000 Australian visitors, showing a strong recovery after the pandemic.
To enhance the promotion of Vietnam tourism in Australia, the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism has organized tourism introduction programs in major Australian cities and welcomed Australian travel business delegations to survey tourism products and services in Vietnam.
The growth of international visitors in Australia comes from the Vietnamese visitor market. Specifically, visitors holding Vietnamese passports increased by 29% compared to the same period in 2019. Most Vietnamese people travel to Australia to visit relatives or study abroad. This shows that the relationship between the two countries is increasingly close and the demand for tourism and cultural exchange between the people of the two countries is increasing.
Deepening Vietnam – Australia Tourism Cooperation
Austrade wishes to strengthen tourism cooperation with Vietnam by developing a more effective tourism promotion plan, enhancing the visitor experience, and extending the length of stay for tourists. At the same time, Austrade proposed that Vietnam create favorable visa procedures for Australian tourists.

The two sides also discussed the report “Strengthening Vietnam – Australia Tourism Cooperation,” which focuses on solutions to promote tourism cooperation between the two countries, including:
- Developing new tourism products: Exploring new destinations, developing unique types of tourism such as ecotourism, community-based tourism, and MICE tourism.
- Improving service quality: Training tourism human resources, improving infrastructure, and strengthening service quality management.
- Enhancing tourism promotion and marketing: Organizing tourism promotion events, participating in international tourism fairs, and using online media channels to reach potential tourists.
- Creating favorable entry procedures: Relaxing visa policies and simplifying entry procedures to attract international tourists.
Deputy Director General Ha Van Sieu requested Austrade to provide information soon about the plan to organize a Tourism Forum in Australia in the second quarter of 2024 so that the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism can coordinate in preparing content and inviting suitable guests, ensuring the event takes place effectively.
Conclusion
The cooperation between Vietnam and Australia in the field of tourism promises to bring many benefits to both countries. Strengthening the promotion of attractive destinations, improving service quality, and creating favorable conditions for tourists will help attract more international visitors to Vietnam and Australia, contributing to promoting economic development and strengthening cultural exchange between the two countries. With joint efforts, Vietnam tourism will certainly continue to affirm its position as one of the favorite destinations for international tourists.
